Why We Built Finds: The Auction Platform Classic Car Enthusiasts Deserve

Finds exists because we got frustrated trying to buy classic cars in Romania.

We're BetterQA, a software quality company based in Cluj-Napoca. We test software for companies across Europe - everyone from startups to enterprises with NATO-certified security requirements. We obsess over quality, verification, and getting things right.

Several of us are classic car enthusiasts. And when we tried to buy classics in Romania, we ran into the same problems over and over.

The Problems We Saw

Lack of Transparency

Listings with vague descriptions. "Good condition" photos taken from flattering angles. No mention of the rust hiding under fresh underseal. Sellers who got defensive when asked direct questions about problems.

We'd drive hours to see a car that looked nothing like the listing. Multiple times.

No Trust Infrastructure

Private sales with no verification. No way to know if the seller was legitimate. No recourse if something went wrong after payment. Facebook marketplace negotiations with strangers.

The existing Romanian platforms were general classifieds - no curation, no quality control, no accountability.

Hidden Costs

Even the international auction platforms that served Romania had fee structures that weren't clear until you'd already won. Buyer's premium, listing fees, payment processing fees - it added up in ways that weren't transparent upfront.

What We Decided to Build

We applied the same thinking we use for software quality to classic car auctions:

Verification First

Every seller goes through identity verification before their first listing. Every vehicle goes through manual approval. We check that descriptions match reality, that documentation exists, that the seller can actually deliver what they're promising.

This is what we do professionally - verify things work as claimed. We're applying it to cars.

Transparency as Default

Our fee structure is simple: 5% buyer fee. No seller commission. No hidden charges. You know what you're paying before you bid.

Listings must include honest condition descriptions. We require disclosure of known issues. "Sold as seen" doesn't mean "hide the problems."

Real Protection

Payment is held until the buyer confirms the car matches the description. If there's a dispute, we mediate. If a seller misrepresents a vehicle, there are consequences.

This isn't a classified site where you're on your own after payment. We stay involved until the transaction is complete.

Why Romania, Why Now

Romania has interesting classic car inventory that's underserved by existing platforms. Dacias, AROs, and Eastern Bloc imports that you won't find elsewhere. Western European classics that migrated east in the 1990s and have been sitting in garages since.

The market is growing. More cars are emerging. International buyers are discovering Romanian classics. But there wasn't a platform built for this specific market with the verification infrastructure it needed.

We're starting in Romania because we're here and we understand the market. But we're building for Europe - the platform handles multiple languages, EU payment processing, and cross-border transactions.

What We're Not

We're not trying to be Bring a Trailer or RM Sotheby's. We're not chasing seven-figure Ferraris or competing for the high-end auction business.

We're focused on accessible classics - the cars enthusiasts actually drive. Project cars with honest descriptions. Barn finds with realistic expectations. Driver-quality vehicles at fair prices.

The €5,000 Dacia 1300 that someone will actually restore and enjoy. The €15,000 BMW E30 that will become someone's weekend car. The €3,000 barn find ARO that's more rust than metal but has a story.

The BetterQA Connection

Finds is a BetterQA Labs project. We're using our own resources to build it because we believe in what it can become. The same team that tests software for enterprises is building the platform, applying the same attention to detail.

Quality verification is literally our business. We're extending that to an industry that desperately needs it.

What Comes Next

We're starting with auctions for classic cars in Romania, serving buyers across Europe. From there:

• Expanding to more EU countries as inventory and demand grow
• Adding supporting services (inspections, transport coordination, documentation assistance)
• Building tools for the classic car community beyond just transactions

We're not in a rush. We'd rather do it right than do it fast.
